Hirens BootCD 9.7 - Ultimate boot Disk

Hiren's BootCD is an all in one Dos Bootable CD, which consists of extremely essential tools for your system in case of Hiren's BootCD 9.7 - Ultimate boot Diskemergency.Hiren's Boot CD is a boot CD containing various diagnostic programs such as partitioning agents, system performance benchmarks, disk cloning and imaging tools, data recovery tools, MBR tools, BIOS tools, and many others for fixing various computer problems. It is a Bootable CD hence it is useful even if the primary operating system cannot be booted. Hiren's Boot CD has an extensive list of software. I even used to break into Windows based systems in my institute using this CD (by using Active password changer provided in the CD) and till date, its the best one (except Ophcrack, cuz I like rainbow tables :P ). The CD has utilities with similar functionality on the CD and some times they seem redundant however I think this has been done to provide users diverse choices to choose their method of performing an operation. Overall,Hiren's BootCD is a must have tool for every PC user out there, and is an indispensible tool for System Administrators and Powerusers.

I used Hirens Boot CD to copy the SAM file. For this I started the NTFS DOS which mounted my opersting system drive as d:, and one another drive as e:. Then to copy the SAM file I entered into config folder as follows- d:[enter] cd windows[Enter] cd system32[Enter] cd config[Enter] and then the copy command as follows- copy sam e:[Enter] The file was coppied but there are another files named sam.log, sam.log1.sam.log2 in the config folder.I tried the same command for copying these files but these files did not copied. copy sam.log1 e: File not found (0 files copied) Why is it so?????????? 1 more problem I faced is that when I enter into windows folder by the following command, it normally enters into the Windows folder- d:\>cd windows[Enter] d:\windows> But when I want to enter into the Program Files, it shows an error- too many parameters.I followed- d:\>cd Program Files[Enter] too many parameters d:\> It happens with every folder with the name having a space. It means we can not enter into these type of folders? Why is so????????? If we can then how?? 1 more thing is that its Active password changer software does not work in VISTA. *Sometimes when the PENDRIVE is inserted in the USB port then this CD does not boot .IT starts booting but hangs in between. If I remove the PENDRIVE and boot again it boots normally.Does this CD not support the PENDRIVES. Why?? Thanks in advance for giving your time to my problem and for your articles too.

Hi Muktendra wow..a lot of questions :) but I likeem and lets tackelem one by one. as for your first query, sam.log files are simply log files which keep record of sam activity, the password changing and timestamps when was the sam files last accessed. These are read-only files and hence may or may not be copied when you use different filesystem or even in windows. They might even act as ghost files which appear to be present but are not and hence their shadow signatures may not be copied. For Directory Error - I think you are using Windows Vista and hence you are getting problems (its actually very very troublesome neverthless but still),I actually used Vista and got no problems in changing directories. The Error of "Too many parameters " comes when you give more than one space between "Program files" and it will count it as directory DOS parameters and hence will generate the error. I suggest you to recheck the spaces. For Active password changer,well..leave it and search for some alternative,of course google is your best friend for it. Hirens Boot CD is a thoroughly bootable CD and if it hangs when you insert a pendrive, then actually the firmware looks for boot sector in 1st bootable device which is CD,and when you insert pendrive then it stops looking for boot sector in optical drive and goes for the higher priority USB boot and hence it hangs. But Once you have unplugged the pendrive,it checks the CD again and finds the boot sector, then it will not look for it in the pendrive and will boot normally. wow..that was informative aint it..well you can ask more if you still have questions. Cheers and thanks for giving your time to my blog XERO
