CanAnon is a pan-Canadian, collaborative, bilingual information hub for IRL and online freedom of information activism in Canada.
We need your help!
CanAnon relies totally on volunteers and supporters for writing content, proofreading, translations, etc. We invite you to participate. If you can write, blog, translate, make videos, use twitter, or are generally good with computers, feel free to join our chat to find out more.
You can either can get in touch with us via AnonNet with an IRC client such as irssi (Linux), Colloquy (OSX), or xchat (Windows) at irc.anonnet.org port 6667 or 6697 (SSL if your client supports it) or instantly courtesy of Mibbit below. Your IP address will be cloaked automatically.
Who We Are
Doing what QuebecLeaks can't because we can. Why?
Anonymous has been described in the media (Colbert LOL) as "the big vicious guard dog of Wikleaks". We are not a part of Quebecleaks, but we share their ideals and objectives. Cananon will act at a smaller scale to support QuebecLeaks (and when it is created, CanadaLeaks). Cananon will defend and act upon the information published by these leak sites; we will be a collaborative platform for social evolution and lulz.
Like Quebecleaks, Cananon's goal is more transparency in the workings of our society and its government. Our traditional media organisations have become puppets of the powers they are meant to monitor. QuebecLeaks is the start of an alternative method and we will build upon their efforts.
Ever felt that our society is out of our control? Have you ever wanted to follow the example of the middle-east and take matters into the people's hands? Don't wait for change; make it happen.
An open letter from Anonymous to Anonymous
CanAnon continues the fight for true Freedom of Information in all its forms. This includes the free flow of information, as censorship is counterproductive to social and human development and will be stopped.
Within Canada, CanAnon will promote transparency to power and the freedom of information flux, including new medias as well as reforming copyright laws.
The definition of intellectual property must be rethought in the advent of the Internet; a new way to design property is needed to allow freedom of information to coexist with authors being properly rewarded for their contributions to society and culture.
CanAnon does not hold the answers to these questions, but is willing to begin the debate, for the future and for the lulz.
Because of the serious business that is the internet, borders are now more permeable, making Anonymous and CanAnon transnational in its membership and scope. Issues affecting the freeflow of information can be fought on a global stage. CanAnon wishes to share its knowledge to equip protesters around the world in their fights against tyranny.
We are not liberal, we are not conversatives, we are not NPD and we are not in support of any political party no matter how big or how small. You can have any of these affiliations, but not Anonymous.
