UPDATE: MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi has been attacked. It was a murder attempt and he's critically injured. Be careful if you are heading to Old City.Please avoid heading to Charminar, Chandrayangutta, Santosh Nagar, Barkas and the adjoining areas. Police has completed cordoned the area. Mohammad pahalwan bhousa is the culprit in the initial investigation. $ rounds of gun fire.This took place at around 11:15 am today morning. Firing and attack with knife too. $ bullets in his body one bullet is very close to heart. They are traveling in AP 12 C 8171 Gypsy. Attack happened near Barkas.
He is in ICU.Condition very critical. He was admitted in Owaisi Hospital, Santosh Nagar.
Police have been put on high alert in Hyderabad as tension deepened in the old city areas on Saturday afternoon following the stunning attack on Akbaruddin Owaisi, the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
He was shot at and critically wounded while he was travelling in a Gypsy jeep for a rally near Barkas through his Chandranarayangutta constituency in the old city. Ahmed Balala, the MIM legislator from Malakpet, accompanying him was also injured in the mayhem.
Apart from opening four rounds of fire the assailants attacked them with swords and daggers, some of the group of about 15 assailants reportedly came and fled on horseback.
Both Balal and Owaisi have been admitted to the Owaisi Hospital in Santosh Nagar.
In the retaliatory fire, when the gunman of the legislators opened fire four of the assailants were killed. The assailants are understood to be the henchmen of a local tough Mohammed Pehlwan who is aligned with the rival Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) party.
An ongoing property dispute is believed to be the trigger for the attack. Andhra Pradesh chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy accompanied by the state home minister P. Sabita Reddy visited the Owaisi Hospital to enquire personally about the latest condition of Akbaruddin Owaisi.
